Flurry

Fleece Hats

ReMade

2025

About

Flurry is a creative exploration of fleece hats that are made to keep you looking and feeling good, no matter what the weather.

Material Sourcing

The material used in this project was sourced from a local second-hand textile shop, The Ragfinery, that would otherwise go to waste. These cut-offs were collected and repurposed as the primary material for constructing the hats, giving discarded textile waste a new and functional life.

Concept Development

Adobe Illustrator and laser cutting proved essential in visualizing and refining the pattern, allowing for precise scaling and sizing adjustments until the classic beanie shape was achieved. Being able to digitally manipulate the pattern saved significant time and reduced material waste during the development process.

Prototyping

Examining the relationship between 2D pattern shapes and their 3D counterparts proved to be a process of trial and error, resulting in many unexpected forms before the desired shape and style finally began to emerge.

Final Product

After refining the design of Flurry, it was presented at Ideal, a local design shop, where it was branded, priced, and sold directly to consumers.

Key Takeaways

Through this project, I developed a deeper understanding of human factors, patternmaking, and what it takes to bring a product to the market. It also deepened my appreciation for circular economy principles and the importance of designing with sustainability in mind.
